Assists in planning and executing AFSCME conferences, meetings and events, including playing a key management role in the biennial convention; coordinates program/conference agendas with International Union staff, members of the Board and affiliate members; and oversees all activities related to the program and conference content development for the department.

DUTIES: Defines and establishes conference design, goals and program content. Assists Director in planning program and content development for AFSCME conferences and meetings.  Leads and participates in internal multi-departmental and diverse teams to strategize and develop conference and meeting content and executes specific program areas at conferences and meetings. Recommends and crafts agendas that support the union’s goals and objectives. Builds content development and strategies for AFSCME’s Advisory Committees. Plans and facilitates committee meetings. Works with other AFSCME departments by providing strategies for increasing AFSCME’s visibility through conference and meetings’ programs and agendas.  Works with the Director to execute specific program responsibilities at the International Convention. Coordinates with other AFSCME departments and oversees material preparation and production for all conferences and meetings.  Works in collaboration with other AFSCME Departments, affiliates and allied organizations to achieve the goals of the department. Regularly apprises the Director of all major activities occurring and confers on the status of projects and progress toward meeting agreed upon deadlines.  Required to handle multiple priorities within time constraints.

REQUIREMENTS: A minimum of ten years related experience in program development. Graduation from an accredited four year college or university or equivalent combination of education and experience, which provides the following knowledge, skills and abilities;  Experience in program development and management.  Superior oral and written communication skills and organizational and time management skills.  Attention to detail a must. Strong sense of urgency and outstanding customer relations when handling requests from within and outside of the organization. Knowledge of AFSCME’s structure, policies and programs. Ability to lead and supervise staff.  Advanced ability to work effectively in fast paced environment with changing priorities. Knowledge of unions or experience working in a union environment.  Advanced skills in the use of personal computers and internet research.  Travel and extended hours are required.  A valid driver’s license is required.
