This position in the Organizing and Field Services Department receives close supervision to perform a variety of straightforward tasks in support of organizing and contract campaigns.  Assigned a variety of basic research, writing, field organizing, data collection, and maintenance tasks.  Responsibilities contribute to the overall development of strategies that advance organizing initiatives in specific industries, companies and/or geographical locations.

DUTIES: Locates, compiles and sorts information on routine matters, as directed.  Provides information to staff and affiliate/council as requested.  Maintains logs on requests received and information sought. Organizes material and completes assignments according to set standards regarding order, clarity, conciseness, style and terminology. Based on stated objectives, collects and summarizes background data on an employer.  Uses a broad spectrum of internal and external resources to acquire specific information. Searches sources, such as reference works, literature, documents, newspapers, financial statements, and statistical records.  Under guidance, may need to search for alternative sources due to more unique data requirements. Maintains database storage and retrieval system as well as historical records aid in providing information to be used in completing requests. Incumbent works on short- and long-term projects.  May assist others in more complex analysis and the preparation of requisite materials.  Presents data by computer readouts, graphs, charts, tables, written reports, or other methods.

REQUIREMENTS: Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with course work in economics, social sciences, business, public administration or liberal arts with up to two (2)  years experience in labor, political or community organizing; or any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the following knowledge, skills and abilities: Ability to perform basic economic and financial analyses. Ability to conduct research, problem solve, and summarize analysis. Must have ability to write succinctly and present findings, ability to assess and appropriately respond to information requests, ability to use personal computers, including graphics software and setting up and maintaining databases and spreadsheets.  Exposure to labor relations issues in the public and private sectors.  Experience in labor, political or community organizing, including strategic research, desirable. Possess general knowledge of ERISA, securities statutes, and corporate law. Familiarity with private sector organizing and the collective bargaining processes and issues. Can plan and organize technical financial information and present in a manner that users can comprehend. Has ability to conduct sound research and reach logical conclusions.  Can effectively communicate, both orally and in writing, ability to communicate in a foreign language desirable.  Travel and extended work hours may be required.  A valid drivers license is required.
