DUTIES: Processes, reviews and inputs a variety of financial and accounting transactions according to Union and department policies and procedures.  Uses one ore more accounting software systems, spreadsheets and word processing software to perform required tasks.  Communicates with staff by telephone, email and memos.  Maintains records, logs, and files of transactions and activities.  Provides assistance to department by answering phones, opening and distributing mail, preparing mailings to departments.  Performs other general clerical task as assigned. Specific duties include; receive, sort and separate incoming checks.  Batch all checks by type of funds and create bank deposit for each batch.  Enter all checks into the accounting system.  Process all supply orders.  Audit all miscellaneous, and retiree per capita tax batches.  Receive incoming calls to the per capita tax section.  Prepare vouchers for return of funds to affiliates.  Prepare daily deposit journal entry.  Make daily trip to the bank to deposit all funds for AFSCME.  Distribute Stat books.  Correspondence preparation as necessary.

REQUIREMENTS: High school graduate or equivalent with a minimum of one year accounting or bookkeeping courses at the college level, or any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the following knowledge, skills and abilities: ability to effectively use MSEXCEL; knowledge of AFSCME’s accounting processes and related policies and ability to interpret and apply them to work activities; ability to operate calculator/adding machine and to input data into automated accounting and database systems and other office equipment required; must be proficient in the use of personal computer, word processing, and I0-key calculator. Overtime may be required.  Advanced bookkeeping experience or accounting courses desirable.
