DUTIES: Processes disbursement checks, computer and manual. Maintains security of checks. Keeps up to date logs of check use and check pickups. Prepares checks for mailing or for departmental pickup. Assists in reconciliations of bank accounts. Distributes financial statements including monthly, quarterly and other special reports. Updates stale check list and follow up with A/P clerks for resolution. Keys journal entries into the general ledger as assigned. Update spreadsheets and maintain GL files. May provide assistance to department by answering phones, opening and distributing mail, preparing mailings to departments, or performing other general clerical tasks. Performs special projects and other accounting related duties as assigned. Overtime will be requested of individuals in this position.
REQUIREMENTS: High school graduate or equivalent with a minimum of one year accounting or bookkeeping courses at the college level. Additional bookkeeping or accounting courses is desirable or any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the following knowledge, skills and abilities: Ability to learn and use computerized Accounting Systems; Ability to handle multiple tasks and manage time effectively to meet deadlines; Has demonstrated a high degree of organizational skills, accuracy and attention to detail. Proficiency with a personal computer and 10 key calculator; Ability to learn effectively using MSEXCEL; Experience with MSWord is required. Experience with the use of PC accounting software, advanced bookkeeping experience or accounting courses desirable.
