This position is responsible for receiving and calculating information to the data source for accuracy and completeness consistent with AFSCME policies and practices.  Complexity of work identified by the variety of accounting and administrative activities assigned, the amount of analysis required or the variety of information sources.

DUTIES: Receive, review and compare source and accompanying documents for accuracy and completeness to submitted forms, invoices, APT’s, Personnel Requisitions and other submitted documents.  Process information by comparing, calculating, inputting and/or transferring information to other data sources, accounting systems, documents or worksheets.  Compare information to stated policies and guidelines to ensure consistent adherence to AFSCME policies and practices.  Copy source documents as required to forward on to other phases of processing.  Perform complex analysis and reconciliations, audit and/or review steps to ensure accuracy of financial transactions and adherence to AFSCME policies and practices.  Prepare required forms to complete processing transactions.  Research, follow up and make inquiries on unapproved, unreported or questionable items with employees, originating department staff, Human Resource staff, Affiliates and vendors via telephone, email or other written correspondence.  Provide administrative support to management and assistance to department by effectively communicating deadlines of agency filings, work tasks assigned by management, due dates and other items.  Maintain files of documents, reports and of analyses performed and all work activities.  Answering phones, opening and distributing mail and performing other general administrative tasks.  Other related duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS: High school graduate, minimum one-year bookkeeping or accounting courses at the college level.  Additional bookkeeping or accounting courses is desirable.  Two to three years experience in an accounting environment performing a variety of tasks and/or equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the following knowledge, skills and abilities:  Ability to handle multiple tasks while working with minimal supervision; manage time effectively to meet deadlines and be self-motivated to learn and take on new tasks and responsibilities. A high degree of organizational skills, accuracy, attention to detail and workflow output.  Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and professionally with co-workers, management and others external to AFSCME.  Proficiency with a personal computer, 10 key calculator and in the use of MS Excel and MSWord software is required.  Experience with the use of PC accounting software is required.  Experience with MSAccess and Intuit Quickbooks software is desirable.
