DUTIES: Review and key journal entries into the general ledger. Process check inquiries and stop payments. Perform reconciliations of bank accounts. Prepare general journal entries for transactions made from the AFSCME group bank accounts. Update stale check list and follow up with A/P clerks for resolution. Provide monthly detail analysis on various accounts, including but not limited to furniture and equipment, legal fees and loans to affiliates, as well as maintaining subsidiary schedules for same. Input data for IRS Form 8872 filings. Process disbursement checks, computer and manual. Maintain security of checks. Keep up to date logs of check use and check pickups. Prepare checks for mailing or for departmental pickup. Processes, reconciles and reports on a variety of accounting and financial transactions according to department procedures involving analysis of information. Maintains records, logs, and files of activities. Coordinate various payments with other departments, such as Personal Property Taxes for the Field with General Services; AFL-CIO Fees and State Federation Fees with PerCapita; AD&D Insurance with Benefits. Prepare checks for mailing or for departmental pickup. Compile and distribute financial statements including monthly, quarterly and other special reports. Maintain the accounting functions of smaller Union entities on accounting software. Perform special projects and other related duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS: High school graduate or equivalent and a minimum of two years of accounting courses at a college level. Two to three years experience in an accounting environment performing a variety tasks desired any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the following knowledge, skills and abilities. Ability to handle multiple tasks while working with minimal supervision; manage time effectively to meet deadlines. Demonstrate a high degree of organizational skills, accuracy and attention to detail. Proficiency with a personal computer, 10 key calculator and in the use of MS Excel software is required. Experience with MSWord is required. Experience with the use of PC accounting software (eg; Quickbooks, NavigatER Travel System) is desirable. This position requires heavy data entry. Periodic overtime is required.
