Gov. Christie Blames Economic Crisis on Working Families

December 22, 2010

In a one-sided "60 Minutes" report that aired this week, Gov. Chris Christie (R-NJ) showed viewers he's more interested in scoring political points than solving state and local budget challenges and getting the economy moving. Here are some of the facts missing from that report:

Despite Christie's claim that public employees haven't sacrificed to help get through the economic storm, the truth is that hundreds of thousands of public employees have been laid off and taken pay and benefit cuts during the economic crisis. And Christie is wrong if he thinks cutting benefits will solve the problem — the real problem is unemployment, and Gov. Christie killed a project this year that would have provided his state with 6,000 jobs. It's time to stop the lies.
