House Democrats introduce Fairness in Taxation Act
March 16, 2011
New legislation introduced by Rep. Jan Schakowsky (IL-09) would establish new tax brackets for income above $1 million. If enacted in 2011, the Fairness in Taxation Act would raise more than $78 billion.
Attention in Congress over the federal budget deficit has focused almost solely on program cuts that disproportionately affect lower and middle class families. Republican leaders in Congress seem intent on ending many vital community services in order to fund more tax breaks for corporations and the highest earners.
According to Rep. Schakowsky: “We can choose to cut education, job creation and health care, or we can choose to ask those who can contribute more to do so.”
