Memorial Day: Support Those on the Frontlines of Taking Care of Veterans

by Sally Tyler  |  May 25, 2012

Home care workers throughout the United States perform the often physically and emotionally demanding work that enables elderly and disabled veterans to remain in their communities. Yet, these vital workers are currently excluded from minimum wage and overtime protections.

Denying home care workers basic wage and hour protections keeps many of them on the margins of poverty, even as they perform critical services to our society. Moreover, lack of overtime and pay protections for home care workers is bad for the elderly and disabled consumers, many of them veterans. This economic insecurity leads to high rates of turnover, which is harmful to consistent care.

Sign our petition to show support of a proposed Department of Labor rule to extend minimum wage and overtime protections to home care workers under the Fair Labor Standards Act (RIN 1235-AA05).

Our veterans have given their all for us – let’s give our all for them by helping promote a stable, secure workforce for them.
