Stephen King's Next Horror Novel "Could Star Rick Scott"

March 09, 2011

Novelist Stephen King made a surprise appearance at the "Awake the State" rally in Sarasota, Fla., on Tuesday and spoke out against Gov. Rick Scott's radical, budget-slashing, union-busting agenda.

After telling the crowd that, "as a rich person," he pays 28 percent tax — King asked, "Why am I not paying 50 [percent]? Why is everybody in my bracket not paying 50?"

The answer, according to King, is that Republicans "from John Boehner to Mitch McConnell to Rick Scott" say we can't ask the rich to pay their share, "because if you tax guys like me there won't be any jobs. It's bull! It's total bull."

The event was one of more than 30 Awake the State rallies held across the state to protest Gov. Scott's proposals.
