Twitterverse Takes on Limbaugh
by Kate Childs Graham | March 19, 2012
At the end of February, radio host and conservative pundit Rush Limbaugh called Georgetown University student Sandra Fluke a “slut” and “prostitute.” All this because she had the courage to testify to House Democrats about the role of contraception in women’s health. As a result, more than 50 companies have publicly dropped their ads and more than 100 announced they want nothing to do with his show.
Over the years, Limbaugh has been less than kind to union members, often using the same misogynistic language he used with Fluke when talking about workers. Once, he compared being unionized to being raped. Another time, he said that those in Ohio working to repeal Senate Bill 5 wished to “rape themselves.”
Twitter is speaking out:
If you’re on Twitter, be sure to tweet at businesses that advertise on your local radio station playing Limbaugh’s show. Ask them to stop advertising on it.
Together, we can harness the power of 140 characters, stand up for women and workers, and give Limbaugh the boot.
