We’ll Bet You Dollars to Donuts Rick Scott Doesn’t Get It
by John Noonan | January 10, 2012
Florida Gov. Rick Scott delivered his State of the State Address today and what topic did he spend the most time discussing? Not jobs or health care or education. Nope. Donuts. With Florida families struggling and looking for real leadership to move the state forward Rick Scott talked about his love for the breakfast pastry. And like his beloved donuts, Scott’s arguments have great big holes in the middle of them.
In his speech, Scott took credit for creating jobs while not mentioning the thousands of Floridians he has left without work. While Scott likes to call himself the “jobs governor,” the truth is that last year he cut 4,000 jobs from the state workforce and he wants to chop another 4,500 jobs in 2012. No matter how much you glaze that doughnut it just doesn’t get any easier to swallow.
Floridians are struggling and our middle class is getting crushed, but Scott is choosing to take jobs away from workers and money away from small business owners, just to protect millionaires. Floridians learned a tough lesson last year: You can't trust Rick Scott. That’s why AFSCME is leading the fight for middle class Floridians and against Rick Scott’s job-killing policies.
