Wisconsin’s Voters Again Reject Corporate Agenda
by Clyde Weiss | July 20, 2011
Wisconsin’s voters made it clear last night, for the second time in two weeks, that they’re not going to let corporate-backed candidates defeat incumbent lawmakers who stood up for the rights of teachers, nurses and corrections officers to have a voice on the job through collective bargaining. Incumbent state Sen. Dave Hansen (D) defeated David VanderLeest, the GOP recall organizer, with 66 percent of the vote in the state’s first general election recall contest.
Just last week, voters rejected all six right-wing candidates who ran on the Democratic ticket – a bold endorsement of the lawmakers who stood up against the big business interests supporting these right-wing lawmakers.
Two more Democratic incumbents still face recall elections. Both bravely opposed Gov. Scott Walker (R), who repealed collective bargaining rights in March. Six senators who supported Walker’s anti-worker, corporate agenda will also face voters in the next month.
Stay tuned.
