Federal Health Care Reform Recommendations to be Released Sept. 27

A federal commission called the Citizens' Health Care Working Group was formed by legislation and was tasked with asking average Americans what we think should be done to improve our broken health care system throughout 2006.

The Working Group issued draft Interim Recommendations for national health care reform in June and asked individuals to respond by August 31, 2006. More than 20,000 AFSCME members submitted response letters to the Working Group on the recommendations, and many participated in community meetings held across the nation last spring. The President is expected to comment on the Final Recommendations due this fall, and five committees of Congress will hold hearings. The Working Group is expected to issue new recommendations by October and will issue a final report by or before February of 2007.
