Transportation Information

From airfare reservations to ground transportation, AFSCME has negotiated rates to make getting to and getting around the "City by the Bay" easier on your wallet. Use the following information to receive discounts on airline travel, rapid transit airport service, airport shuttle service, rental car rates and even town car service.

Getting There — Airline Discounts

Please identify yourself as an attendee of the AFSCME 38th International Convention to qualify for discounted airline tickets to and from our Convention. AFSCME has negotiated special roundtrip Convention fares with the following vendors.

Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) Airport Service

Go Green on BART for the AFSCME Convention! BART provides rapid transit transfers from SFO and OAK to downtown San Francisco. The service is convenient, fast and inexpensive. Here's why BART is such a great option:

  • The trip from either airport takes only about 1/2 hour.
  • Roundtrip tickets cost only $10.70 (from SFO) and $13.10 (from OAK, including $6.00 for roundtrip AirBART shuttles).
  • Trains depart 4 - 5 times an hour from each airport.
  • Our downtown stations are a short walk to most downtown hotels. (Get directions from the train to your hotel using the BART QuickPlanner.) 
  • Tickets can be purchased in advance from the BART online store.

Airport Shuttle Service (SuperShuttle)

SuperShuttle Transportation System provides airport shuttle service to all San Francisco hotels and Moscone West. You can take advantage of discounted shuttle rates by logging onto www.supershuttle.com and using code HCHPN. Advance registrants receive $3 off the normal one-way rate of $17 from the San Francisco International Airport (SFO) or $5 off the normal one-way rate of $28 from Oakland International Airport (OAK). Only “exclusive shuttle” service — which requires five or more passengers traveling together — is available from San Jose International Airport (SJC). Advance registrants receive $10 off the normal one-way rate for an exclusive shuttle of $125 from the San Jose International Airport.

Advance reservations are not required, but are recommended, if flying into San Francisco International Airport. From SFO the shuttle runs every 15 minutes from all terminals. Advance reservations are required if flying into either Oakland or the San Jose airports and must be pre-paid.

Private Car Service (SuperShuttle ExecuCar)

Affordable, exclusive, chauffeured service is available through SuperShuttle by calling their “ExecuCar” division. Advance registrants receive $5 off the normal one-way rate. Cadillac and Lincoln Town cars are available 24 hours a day. ExecuCar drivers will meet you at the airport in the baggage claim area. To take advantage of this special offer visit www.supershuttle.com and use code HCHPN. This offer is valid for online reservations only. Reservations must be made 24 hours in advance by calling (888) 473-9227 (toll free – U.S. only) or (650) 246-2700. Rates start at $60 for a car (seats four, three comfortably) plus optional driver gratuity.

Rental Car Information (Avis)

AFSCME has negotiated special discounted rental car rates with Avis.

  • Negotiated rates are guaranteed. Return to the same renting location or additional surcharges may apply. All rates include unlimited free mileage. Weekend daily rates are available from noon Thursday to Monday at 11:59 p.m. (vehicle must be checked out by 3 p.m. Sunday).
  • Should a lower qualifying rate become available at the time of booking, Avis will offer a 5 percent discount off the lower qualifying rate or the meeting rate, whichever is lowest. The attendee must use the assigned Meeting Avis Discount Number and meet Avis rate requirements to receive the discount. (Rate discounts are available at all corporate and participating licensee locations.)
  • Rates do not include any state or local surcharges, tax, optional coverages or gas refueling charges.
  • Renter must meet Avis’ age, driver, and credit requirements.
  • Reservations can be made by calling (800) 331-1600 and provide code AWD #T292799 or online at http://www.avis.com/.
  • Rates are available from July 20 to August 6, 2008.
