At the 40th International Union Convention being held June 18-22 in Los Angeles, Calif., elections will be held for all of the International Union’s leadership posts — International President, International Secretary-Treasurer and 35 International Vice Presidents.
At the year-end International Executive Board meeting in December, and with unanimous consent by members of the Board, President McEntee appointed a Committee to review our rules and procedures for electing International officers and vice presidents. These have been in place for many years and have served us well, but a periodic review is appropriate, especially at this important time in our union's history.
The review is being undertaken by a three member committee chaired by IVP Joe Rugola (Ohio). The other members are IVP Sal Luciano (Connecticut) and IVP Sherryl Gordon (New Jersey).
The committee is seeking input and recommendations from all AFSCME Local Unions, Councils, and Retiree Chapters.
Locals, councils, and retiree chapters are requested to attend the meeting in their region and also are requested to use the enclosed response form so that we can arrange meeting room space sufficient to accommodate all those intending to make presentations to the committee.
In the alternative, your local, council, or retiree chapter may submit written presentations. These should be mailed to the following address:
