AFSCME President Says Herman Confirmation a Victory for Organized Labor and Working Families
Washington —Gerald W. McEntee, the International President of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees, today issued the following statement regarding the Clinton Administration’s decision to issue a memorandum to federal departments regarding federal contracts and Alexis Herman’s subsequent confirmation as the next Labor Secretary:
“The Administration’s decision to issue a memorandum rather than an Executive Order is a difference without a distinction. Clearly, the memorandum will serve the same purpose as the Executive Order. I think today’s action is a victory for labor; a victory for working families; and a victory for Alexis Herman, who I am confident will be a stellar Secretary of Labor.”
