AFSCME President Gerald W. McEntee Denounces Impeachment Vote as "Politics at its Worst"
"Today is a dark day in our nation’s history.
The House Republican leadership -- after spending an enormous amount of taxpayer dollars and an enormous amount of time, which could have been better spent on legislation to improve the lives of working families -- have finally gotten what they have long wanted -- the impeachment of President Clinton.
Without question, today marks the dawn of a new day -- a day in which personal, private transgressions can lead to an impeachment of a successful president.
Members of Congress who voted for impeachment today should be ashamed of themselves, not only because they put politics above principle, but because they ignored the will of the people -- the people who elected them to represent their views.
It is indeed a sad day for America, but we must now hope and pray that the members of the U.S. Senate will have the good sense and the good will to put an end to this sorry chapter in our nation’s history."
