AFSCME Makes the Tax Season Less Taxing
Philadelphia, PA — Understanding the 1040EZ, a Schedule C or the Earned Income Tax Credit will be made a little less taxing for union members and the community at large this income tax season, with the assistance of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME).For the first time in the history of the union, 1199C/AFSCME will offer free income tax assistance to union members on February 17. Trained experts will be on hand to simplify the filing process and to eliminate the usual cost associated with having someone else prepare their returns.
The Earned Income Tax Credit will be of special interest to low wage taxpayers in Pennsylvania. The federal EITC is a refundable tax credit for eligible individuals and families who work and have earned income under $31,152. The EITC reduces the amount of tax owed, and often results in a refund.
