Workplace Violence and Family Medical Leave Act Among Issues to be Discussed at AFSCME Regional Women's Conference in Las Vegas

Washington, DC —

U.S. Representative Nita M. Lowey (D-NY), chairwoman of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, will join American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees President Gerald W. McEntee and Secretary-Treasurer William Lucy as the featured speakers at the AFSCME Western Regional Women's Conference in Las Vegas, June 2 - 3, 2001 at Bally's Hotel and Casino.

The American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees, AFL-CIO strongly believes in the role of women in unions and the workplace. Women currently make up 53% of AFSCME's membership and play a very important role in shaping the direction of the union. Women hold leadership positions throughout the International as council presidents, directors and International vice presidents.

For decades, AFSCME has been in the forefront fighting on behalf of women, for pay equity, promotional opportunities and quality and affordable child care, and against sexual harassment and all other forms of workplace discrimination.
