AFSCME Celebrates National Correctional Officers and Employees Week
WASHINGTON —Corrections officers from the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees, (AFSCME), AFSCME Corrections United (ACU) will gather in Washington, DC May 4- 6, for National Correctional Officers and Employees Week. The week is set aside to salute the men and women who protect our nation's communities.
Members of the Senate and House have introduced resolutions seeking recognition of the demanding circumstances and dangerous conditions in which correctional personnel work. ACU members from 20 different states will also pay homage to colleagues who have been killed in the line of duty during a memorial service on Saturday, May 4, 10:00 a.m. at the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial, Judiciary Square at E Street, between 4th and 5th Streets.
AFSCME represents over 80,000 correctional officers and employees.
