AFSCME Suspends UPW Leader Gary Rodrigues

Washington, DC —

The American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME), AFL-CIO, announced today that it has suspended United Public Workers State Director Gary Rodrigues.

AFSCME is the parent union of Hawaii's 12,000-member United Public Workers (UPW) union. The International Union took this action following Rodrigues' conviction on more than 100 federal charges of mail fraud, money laundering and embezzlement.

The UPW executive board of directors has been notified of this action.

AFSCME is the largest public service employees union with 1.3 million members nationwide.
