Minneapolis Couple Will Say "I Do" At AFSCME Convention In Las Vegas
WASHINGTON —A Minneapolis couple will say "I Do" before family and thousands of their closest union friends on Sunday, June 23, in Las Vegas. Six thousand delegates and guests to the 35th International Convention of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME), AFL-CIO, will celebrate the marriage of member David Troy and his fiancée Amy Finseth at 6 p.m. at Bally's Las Vegas Events Center.
David, an activist and member of AFSCME Council 14 Local 2822 in Minneapolis, says he is pleased and proud that the union's 35th International Convention will serve as the backdrop for his wedding, "AFSCME is just like one big happy family and when I proposed the idea of getting married at the convention to President McEntee, he was more than happy to allow us to begin our lives together with our brothers and sisters in the labor movement in attendance."
David and Amy's wedding is the first to take place during an AFSCME International Convention. The ceremony will begin at 6 p.m., followed by a reception.
The American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) represents more than 1.3 million public service and health care workers nationwide. AFSCME is one of the most aggressive and successful organizing unions in the AFL-CIO.
