AFSCME Members Now Serve Union Plus Education Services Program
WASHINGTON —The Union Plus Education Services program has a new unionized provider — American Education Services (AES), which employs approximately 1,000 American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) members.
AES is one of the largest, full-service, financial aid and educational assistance organizations in the nation. It is a nonprofit organization that has four decades of experience with providing students and their families with affordable access to higher education.
"We are pleased to be working with AES, a unionized company and a leader in creating affordable access to higher education," says Leslie Tolf, president of Union Privilege. "Rising tuition costs and cuts in federal and state funding are making higher education more difficult to afford for working families. The Union Plus Education Services program can help working families realize their dreams for a higher education."
The new and improved Union Plus Education Services program provides members with a wide-range of educational assistance including:
- Union Plus Education Foundation Scholarships for colleges, trade and technical schools, as well as the George Meany Center for Labor Studies — National Labor College (NLC)
- Education loans for education-related expenses at any accredited college, university, trade, technical or professional school
- Consolidation loans
- Financial aid counseling over the telephone and online services that make planning for college easier and less stressful
- Strike assistance benefit on student loans
- Discounts on college textbooks
