AFSCME Takes Largest AFL-CIO Delegation to the Democratic National Convention

Union Sets Plans for Its Biggest Mobilization Program Ever

Washington, DC — 

The American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) is taking the largest delegation in the AFL-CIO to the Democratic National Convention in Boston next week.

AFSCME, widely regarded as America's most politically active and powerful labor union, will host daily caucuses and events for its members that include Governors, Senators and Members of Congress and other special guests. The AFSCME caucus meetings will be held daily beginning Sunday, July 25, through Thursday, July 29. House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi (CA) will address AFSCME members on Sunday.

On Tuesday, July 27, the delegation will see a special screening of "Fahrenheit 9/11" and Michael Moore, the film's director, will address members at the Coolidge Corner Theater in Brookline.

AFSCME President Gerald W. McEntee chairs the AFL-CIO's Political Committee. The federation and AFSCME have both launched their largest and most aggressive campaigns ever to defeat George W. Bush, elect John Kerry/John Edwards to the White House and take back America for working families.
