AFSCME, UAW Members to Deliver Pink Slips to Iowa GOP Headquarters on October 16

Jobs rally will highlight President Bush’s failed jobs record AFSCME Intl. President Gerald W. McEntee to emcee Jefferson Jackson Dinner

Des Moines, IA — 

Nearly 1000 members of the American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) and United Auto Workers (UAW) will deliver pink slips to Iowa Republican headquarters to protest the thousands of jobs lost in the state since President Bush took office. The rally will take place on the west steps of the Iowa State Capitol on October 16 at noon. AFSCME International President Gerald W. McEntee, UAW Region 4 Director Dennis Williams, and UAW International Vice President Dick Shoemaker will address the rally.

Later that evening, President McEntee will participate in the Iowa Democratic Party’s 2004 Jefferson Jackson Day Dinner. In addition to addressing the 2000 expected guests, President McEntee will introduce several distinguished speakers, including Governor Tom Vilsack, U.S. Senator Tom Harkin, actress Sharon Stone, and humorist Al Franken.
