Thousands of NY Workers to Meet with State Legislators in Albany on March 30

AFSCME Lobby Day to Focus on Medicaid, Outsourcing and Workplace Security

ALBANY, NY — 

Nearly 1,500 state employees will converge on the New York State Capital on Tuesday, March 30 for the American Federation of State County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) New York State Lobby Day. AFSCME is the largest union in New York State representing more than 400,000 members.

AFSCME members will meet with state lawmakers to lobby on issues that affect all working families. AFSCME International President Gerald McEntee, NY Senate Majority Leader Joe Bruno and NY House Speaker Sheldon Silver will address the group at the Convention Center, Empire State Plaza.

Members will ask lawmakers to restore Medicaid cuts that make it difficult for seniors and disabled children to get coverage, and limits access to needed nursing home care. Members will also call on lawmakers to stop outsourcing by prohibiting any company that accepts state aid for economic development from moving jobs out of state.

In addition AFSCME members will discuss workplace safety, agency shop, and contract accountability.
