Statement by AFSCME President Gerald W. McEntee on Future GOP Budget/Tax Agenda
Today, courageous GOP moderates and the entire Senate Democratic Caucus raised the stakes on the right wing's misplaced budget priorities by forcing the debate into election year 2006.
Out from under a cloak of darkness, Americans will now have the opportunity to see that the congressional leadership's reckless budget and tax cut plan is a thinly veiled attempt to cut vital services to give billions in tax breaks to millionaires.
And the people of this nation will have the chance to "vote" on these service cuts and tax breaks for the super rich at the ballot box next November.
In the spirit of this season of giving, AFSCME is going to redouble its efforts to stop the right wing from slashing health care for struggling America's families and cutting college loans for middle-class kids. Make no mistake — we're going to keep on fighting until we permanently derail these reckless budget and tax cuts.
