Statement by President McEntee on House Vote on Draconian Budget Cuts
Members of Congress who voted yesterday for Ebenezer Scrooge-like cuts to vital programs that benefit poor and middle-class families, so they can give billions in tax breaks to the rich, should be ashamed! Their wrongheaded decision will take health care away from families struggling to make ends meet, cut college loans for middle class kids and take food off the tables of poor children.
Now the bill heads to the Senate, where in the spirit of this great nation of giving, we hope GOP Senators will buck their leadership and vote NO on this immoral budget. We call on all moderates to do the right thing and scuttle this plan, which is not only unfair but also un-American.
