Statement by President McEntee on Rollback of TABOR in Colorado
Colorado families won a tremendous victory yesterday when they voted to role back the Taxpayer Bill of Rights (TABOR) — a law that starved public services and restricted the ability of elected officials to respond to imminent public health and safety threats.
The vote proved that the TABOR-style spending limits were out of touch with the economic realities facing Colorado — arbitrarily gutting funding for education, roads and the other vital services families depend on. Because of TABOR, Colorado is now at the bottom of national rankings on education, health care and social services.
With their vote yesterday the people of Colorado rejected a false bill of goods. This vote should send a clear message to the rightwing, anti-government activists who are championing this law: America Deserves Better!
