McEntee to Bush: “Don’t Veto Health Care for Kids”
Statement of AFSCME President Gerald W. McEntee on Senate Vote on the State Child Health Insurance Program (SCHIP)
“Today’s bipartisan vote to provide health coverage for children in low-income working families sends a clear message to President Bush: ‘Stop playing politics with the health of America’s kids.’ The medical needs of American children should not be held hostage by the President and the small band of right-wing congressional Republicans who share his out-of-touch and misguided priorities. If we can find billions to spend on the never-ending war in Iraq, we can find the money to protect the lives and health of American children. If the President goes through with his promised veto, he’s only providing more evidence of his callous and reckless judgment. Congress should waste no time in overriding him.”
