Union Movement to Donate Computer Lab, School Supplies, and $15,000 to Memphis-Area Children

Union Leaders, Children to Participate in Dedication Ceremony

On Thursday, Jan. 17, AFL-CIO President John Sweeney and American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) President Gerald W. McEntee will join children at Hollywood Head Start to announce a number of donations to Memphis-area children. The donations include a computer lab and dozens of computers as well as $15,000 and school supplies.

The group will then proceed to Caldwell Elementary School, where AFL-CIO President John Sweeney will dedicate a computer lab and meet with the school principal, teachers and students.

“The union movement is coming together to celebrate Martin Luther King Jr.’s legacy,” said AFL-CIO President John Sweeney. “Working people across the country know that civil and worker rights go hand in hand and that without the tools for a proper education, students can never go on to attain the kind of economic equality in which King and other leaders believed.”
