AFSCME Supports Kendrick Meek

A Strong Voice for Florida’s Working Families

Washington, DC —

AFSCME, the largest union in the AFL-CIO, is proud to endorse Rep. Kendrick Meek (D-FL) for the U. S. Senate. “Florida’s working families need another strong voice in Washington and they will have that in Representative Meek,” said AFSCME International Pres. Gerald W. McEntee.

Throughout his public career, as a highway patrolman, a state legislator and as a member of the U.S. House of Representatives, Meek has been a strong and reliable friend to all of labor, especially public employees and AFSCME. With a lifetime AFSCME voting record in Congress of 100 percent, he has led the way: on working family issues; fighting pay discrimination; establishing pay equity for equal work; increasing child care coverage for families; increasing public safety funding; protecting Social Security; extending unemployment benefits; and fighting for a more affordable and more accessible health care system for all Americans.

McEntee added, “Congressman Meek has been a champion for American workers, retirees and their families. He has earned our support by showing the citizens of Florida what his values are and where he stands.”

AFSCME will make Meek’s race for the U.S. Senate a top priority in the 2010 cycle.
