AFSCME Pres. Lee Saunders' Statement on Mass Shooting in San Bernardino, California

Washington, D.C. —

AFSCME President Lee Saunders issued the following statement in the wake of yesterday’s mass shooting at the Inland Regional Center in San Bernardino:

“Our hearts are heavy with the senseless loss of life suffered in San Bernardino yesterday. We pray for the families and colleagues of those killed. It is unconscionable that some of our most vulnerable citizens and public service workers dedicated to the health and well-being of their communities would be targeted this way. Every day, our nation's public service workers -- including health care providers, social workers, law enforcement and first responders -- head out into their communities to aid those in need and keep America running. They deserve nothing less than safety and respect. We will not forget the contributions of those who died, and through our work, we will honor them.”
