AFSCME Pres. Lee Saunders on Overtime Rule

Washington, D.C. —

AFSCME Pres. Lee Saunders issued the following statement regarding a federal court injunction against the Obama administration's updated overtime rule:

"In this month's election, voters spoke loudly and clearly about their economic anxiety and frustration, their fear that they won’t be able to provide for their families no matter how hard they work. Blocking the overtime rule, which would have given millions of Americans a raise, is a cruel slap in their face.

"President-elect Trump ran as a champion for those struggling to get by. This is his first chance to show us, not just tell us. If he’s serious about his campaign promises, he will call for an appeal of the district court decision, embracing the overtime rule and doing everything possible to help working people get the fair pay they deserve."
