Tentative Contract in Maryland
Maryland’s corrections workers drove a hard bargain at the table — and won a tentative agreement that includes across-the-board increases of $2,550 over the next two years, 12 minutes of roll-call pay for all COs and guaranteed double-time pay for work during weather emergencies, regardless of shift. The Oct. 6 agreement, if ratified, will be the first contract for Maryland’s 8,000 Public Safety & Security members since Maryland’s state employees were granted the right to bargain collectively by Gov. Parris Glendening’s executive order in May of 1996. It comes a mere ten months after 30,000 Maryland state workers voted to join AFSCME. See the next issue of News From ACU for details.
