Another CO Murdered

In Kingston, Tenn., near Nashville, on August 9, AFSCME CO Wayne "Cotton" Morgan was gunned down and killed while escorting a shackled prisoner outside a courthouse. The inmate's wife, a former prison nurse who planned the successful escape, fired the fatal shots.

Morgan, 56, had been a CO at the Brushy Mountain Correctional Complex for 28 years and secretary-treasurer of Local 2173. He leaves behind his wife, Viann, and two children.

Says Tom Higginbottom, a co-worker, "This is like losing a brother."
