Maryland CO Murdered En Route to Residence
Gregory Collins, a CO from the Eastern Correctional Institution in Maryland’s Somerset County, was murdered while driving home from work last June. The state’s Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services, together with private citizens, is offering $10,000 for information leading to the arrests of the individual(s) who gunned down Collins.
"Correctional officers work one of the toughest beats in America," says Stuart O. Simms, public safety secretary. "All of us must do whatever is possible to ensure that those responsible for the death of Officer Collins [are] brought to justice."
Collins, a member of Council 92’s Local 3478, leaves behind a wife and baby daughter, Sydney. The council has set up a fund for the child. Donation checks can be sent to: The Sydney Collins Fund, Hebron Savings Bank, Route 12 & East Carroll Street, Salisbury, Md., 21801; or to Local 3478 Pres. Michael R. Drury at 3803 Meadow Bridge Road, Salisbury, Md., 21804.
