Promises, Promises
AFSCME has published a new pamphlet that highlights the truth about private prisons. Don’t be a Prisoner to Empty Promises exposes the five myths about prison privateers: They increase the local tax base, perform a valuable public service, provide good jobs, do not cut corners and save taxpayers’ money. The text then describes the stark realities of each of those myths. It’s a must-read for activists warding off prison privatization.
