Lawrence R. Scanlon Jr. is the new Director of AFSCME's Political Action Dept. For the past 20 years, Scanlon has worked for New York CSEA/AFSCME Local 1000. From field representative, he served in various departments, going on to become executive director. While he worked at CSEA, Scanlon implemented the systematic use of polling; supervised PEOPLE fund-raising activities, doubling CSEA's contributions in two years; computerized legislative/political operations; rebuilt state voter files; and was responsible for the design of political action programs including endorsements, campaign services, in-kind services, and contribution schedules...Kutztown University Local 2234 in Pennsylvania helped organize a dinner/dance in mid-October to raise money for fellow member Dennis Heffner, who is recovering from a liver transplant. People donated music and raffle items, and the Kutztown Fire Dept. donated their hall. $3,794 was raised. Additional contributions can be sent to: Friends of Dennis C.
