Investor Education Initiative Launched
FSCME is taking the lead in delivering non-biased investment information to members through an innovative and groundbreaking program that will provide on-line financial education. Available through the AFSCME Leadership Academy, information will also be offered through council-based seminars.
The initiative expands on AFSCME’s reputation as a national role model when it comes to protecting the rights of shareholders and the retirement security of our members’ traditional pension plans.
Called “Investor Education for Working Families,” the program is made possible by a $692,180 grant from the Financial Industry Regulatory Investor Education Foundation. The award is the biggest ever given by the foundation, run by the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA), the largest non-governmental regulator for all securities firms doing business in the United States.
AFSCME received the grant partly because of our fight to protect our members’ rights as company shareholders through their pension funds. These initiatives have sparked members’ requests that AFSCME expand its focus on retirement security and help members make smart investment decisions.
