AFSCME mourns the passing of Dorotheria Lucy, wife of 47 years of Sec.-Treas. William Lucy, on May 11. Affectionately known as “Dot,” she was widely admired for providing a comfortable and steady home environment throughout Secretary-Treasurer Lucy’s career. Mrs. Lucy’s quiet strength and convictions were the pillars of her family and of her husband’s trail-blazing leadership. She is survived by her husband, two daughters, four grand-children and a host of other relatives and friends.
Gloria Caoile, special assistant to AFSCME Pres. Gerald W. McEntee, has been appointed by President Clinton to the Advisory Commission on Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders. She and 14 other members will “study ways to increase public sector, private sector and community involvement in improving the health and well-being of Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders and to increase their participation in federal programs where they may be under served.” Caoile is the highest-ranking Asian Pacific American in the U.S. labor movement today.
