Puerto Rican Affiliate Holds Founding Convention

AFSCME has a new affiliate: Servidores Públicos Unidos de Puerto Rico in the Capitulo del Departmento de la Familia with 1,200 members. The Condado Plaza Hotel and Casino in San Juan was the site of their founding convention on January 27 and 28. Miriam Quiñones was elected president and both major party candidates for governor—incumbent Gov. Pedro Rosselló and San Luis Mayor Héctor Luis Acevedo—expressed their commitment to fighting for public employee collective bargaining rights. Pres. Gerald W. McEntee spoke at the convention.
