AFSCME Disabled Cash Awards Contest

By

This year AFSCME will present two $500 awards to councils or locals that have made significant gains inside and outside the workplace to improve the lives of members with disabilities.

Sponsored by AFSCME and the National Organization on Disability, the award provides incentive and recognition to those affiliates that have done the most to establish effective programs and opportunities for AFSCME members with disabilities. Past winners may nominate themselves again if they are applying on the basis of new innovations and efforts.

One of last year's three recipients was AFSCME District of Columbia Local 3976 (Council 26) member Elias Orozco. The local received the award at the International's Convention in Chicago last June.

Since this is not a Convention year, awards will be given at a council convention or other event suggested by the council/local leadership.

Interested council and local union officers should send a cover letter describing their achievements and background materials to Kerry Korpi, Director, AFSCME Department of Research and Collective Bargaining Services, 1625 L St., N.W., Washington, D.C. 20036-5687. Nominations must be postmarked no later than May 15, 1997.

For more information, contact AFSCME's Department of Research and Collective Bargaining Services at (202) 429-1215.
