Workers Memorial Day

By

The worksite should be a place to make a living, not a place to die.

Nevertheless, thousands of Americans die on the job each year while providing for their fellow citizens.

Take a moment to remember these departed brothers and sisters on April 28 when AFSCME and other AFL-CIO unions observe Workers Memorial Day.

Activities will include rallies, postcard- and letter-writing campaigns, and visits to our state and national representatives. We will demand that our employers make our workplaces safer, urge the Occupational Safety and Health Administration to issue regulations on workplace hazards, and persuade our legislators to strengthen our legal rights to a safe workplace.

But none of this will happen unless you get active. If you are interested in organizing and participating in Workers Memorial Day events, contact the AFSCME Department of Research and Collective Bargaining Services at (202) 429-1232 or by e-mail jbarab@afscme.org. Buttons, flyers, posters and other organizing materials will be available in late March.
