Notice re: Southern Legislative District
In December of last year, AFSCME membership figures were certified to the International Executive Board (IEB) by International Sec.-Treas. Bill Lucy. Those figures showed that the membership of locals in the Southern Legislative District, which consists of Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, South Carolina and North Carolina, is less than 1 percent of the total membership of AFSCME. As required by the International Constitution, the IEB established a Hearing Committee to review the legislative district lines and make a recommendation as to whether changes are appropriate. After proposing a tentative plan that would leave the Southern District unchanged, the committee held a hearing on that plan in New Orleans, La., on Feb. 9, 2000, with notice to all subordinate bodies in the Southern District. After the hearing, the committee recommended that the Southern District remain unchanged and, subsequently, the IEB approved.
