A Big Win in Iowa

Child Care Providers Together/AFSCME is the new union for Iowa's 6,000 registered family child care providers. A strong majority signed cards making Council 61 their union. Registered providers across the state have worked to organize a union since the fall of 2004. In January of this year, Gov. Tom Vilsack (D) signed an executive order providing bargaining rights. Child care provider Linda Sladky declared: "When we stand up for children and the people who care for them, all of us win!"
