Welcome to AFSCME WORKS — the new publication of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees. With this issue, we are introducing a cleaner, larger format designed to spotlight AFSCME’s 1.4 million members in action.

You’ll notice several new sections. Proud to Serve America profiles our members on the job, in their communities and in their union. Ask AFSCME takes an in-depth look at one important topic. Talk Back is a forum for members to express their opinions on a variety of issues, andPrivatization Watch highlights the latest shenanigans of America’s privateers, and our union’s attempts to stop them.

We want your input in each of these new sections. Give us your view. Ask a question. Tell us about a privatization victory in your area. Send us your feedback and you may be in the next issue.

All of these changes are part of the Power to Win plan of the 21st Century Initiative, the bold, new plan that is sweeping through all of AFSCME, positioning our union for even greater success in the workplace, at the ballot box and the bargaining table.
