The officers and dispatchers of the Ketchikan Police Department are serving coffee.
Actually, these members of the Public Safety Employees Association (PSEA)/AFSCME Local 803 are raising money for charity by selling “All Jacked Up,” a special blend of java blended just for them.
“Our main goal is to improve our community,” explains Det. Chris Peabody, president of the local. “It also gives us an opportunity to talk to people about the important role our jobs play in the community.”
“They don’t just see us in uniforms making arrests and working with the public. They also see us as community members,” adds Det. Natalie White, vice president of the local.
Money raised from coffee sales goes to charities like Toys for Tots, says Senior Dispatcher Cambre` Skaggs, also the union’s secretary-treasurer.
The unit raised more than $6,000 last year and intends to do even better in 2009. To support the local’s efforts, send an e-mail to Cambres@city.ketchikan.ak.us. Write “KPD-PSEA” in the subject line.
