AFSCME Family Scholarship Winners

We are Family!

The results are in from AFSCME's 1996 Family Scholarship essay awards contest. Winners were selected from hundreds of entries. Each of the ten AFSCME members' sons and daughters will receive $2,000 stipends for each of the four years the student is successfully enrolled in an accredited college or university.

And the winners are: Gregory Smith of Bowie, Md., son of Rose Smith, Local 2250; Erin Murphy of Chicago, Ill., daughter of Daniel Murphy, Council 31/Local 2258; Jennifer Rhodes of Comstock Park, Mich., daughter of Jeanine Embury, Council 25/Local 261; Jillian Lucas of Bronx, N.Y., daughter of Michelle Lucas, Local 420; Sarah Casseus of Waltham, Mass., daughter of Marie Casseus, Local 402; Heather Furnas of Lincoln, Neb., daughter of Mary Furnas, Local 61; Elizabeth Colby of Rosemill, Minn., daughter of Nancy Colby, Council 14/Local 1129; Kelly Delp of Toledo, Ohio, daughter of Kathleen Delp, Council 8/Local 2853; Michael Paulhus (who also was a Presidential Classroom winner this year) of Metairie, La., son of Raymond Paulhus, Local 27; and Andrew McCabe of Westfield, N.J., son of Cheryl McCabe, Council 25/Local 1247.
